Story Summary
Every day begins with a careful head-to-toe skin check for 2-year-old Matthew Jones, whose rare condition makes even the smallest bumps and scrapes a serious concern.
Born with epidermolysis bullosa, or “butterfly skin,” Matthew’s skin is as delicate as butterfly wings, yet his adventurous spirit is anything but fragile.
Despite being one of only about 330,000 people with his specific form of the disease, Matthew spends his days running, climbing and exploring like any other toddler.
His parents balance constant vigilance with the joy of watching their fearless son embrace life.
