About
Stephanie Choo, MD, is a fellowship-trained hand and microvascular surgeon and limb reconstruction physician specializing in hand and upper extremity surgery. Dr. Choo cares for patients with a wide range of conditions, including hand and wrist arthritis, peripheral nerve injuries such as brachial plexus injuries, hand and wrist trauma and muscle spasticity related to cerebral palsy, tetraplegia and stroke. She has a special focus on amputee care, prosthetics, neuroma management and phantom limb pain.
Dr. Choo was inspired to become a physician by watching her father help others as a physician. She chose to become a surgeon after witnessing firsthand the life-changing impact of skilled surgical care. Her philosophy is rooted in patient-centered care — she prioritizes active listening, builds genuine relationships and partners with each patient to create an individualized treatment plan that aligns with their personal goals.
Dr. Choo’s hobbies outside of work include spending time with her family in Ohio, as well as her community of friends in Columbia, traveling, cooking, working out and gymnastics.

Research Profile
Stephanie Choo, MD, is a fellowship-trained hand, microvascular and limb reconstruction physician and orthopaedic faculty member within the University of Missouri School of Medicine. She cares for patients with a full range of hand, wrist and nerve injuries, from arthritis to peripheral and brachial plexus nerve injuries to specialist care for muscle spasticity and amputees.
Dr. Choo’s research efforts have focused on postoperative outcomes of nerve transfers across age groups, the impact of intra-operative therapeutic stimulation on nerve recovery and amputee and nerve transfer patient recovery. She is interested in working with therapists to research amputee and nerve transfer patient recovery and plans to build a complex nerve injury clinic at MU Health Care.
