Patients may come to the Diabetes Management Center for a wide
range of related services. Our primary focus at the DMC is education and support for persons with diabetes or prediabetes.
Living with Diabetes
Support Group
This support group for individuals with diabetes and their
families meets on the first Monday of odd numbered months from 5:30-6:30 pm
in the Diabetes Management Center Classroom at the Capital Region Southwest Campus. Guest
speakers present information about foot care, carbohydrate counting and other
diabetes-related topics. Watch for newspaper announcements detailing the group's
meetings and speakers or call the Diabetes Management Center for additional
information. Click here for a printable schedule.
Group Education
A group education room is available so patients
and family members can meet and discuss with others the unique needs and concerns
of diabetic treatment and management. The center offers educational
programs on Tuesday evenings, Wednesday afternoons and Thursday mornings.
A physician referral is required to schedule an appointment. For more information call 573-632-5090.
Family Eye Care
Eye complications related to diabetes are among the leading
causes of blindness in people between the ages of 25 and 75. At Capital
Region Family Eye Care, Dr. Larry Stauffer and
staff are committed to helping you protect your eyesight from diabetes-related
complications, including retinopathy.
Healthplex
Regular exercise is one of the best ways to manage diabetes,
and Capital Region Healthplex offers you a state-of-the-art
fitness center just across the hall from the Diabetes Management Center. Unlike
most “health clubs,” Capital Region Healthplex is hospital-based
and staffed by knowledgeable, certified health and fitness professionals.
Center for Mental Wellness
Living with diabetes can present significant challenges for
both patients and their loved ones.
Fortunately, the Center for Mental Wellness at CRMC offers a staff of highly trained and licensed
counselors, social workers and psychologists to help you deal with issues relating
to lifestyle change, as well as depression and other coping skills and psychological
problems.
Please Note: When Jefferson City Public Schools are cancelled due to weather, educational classes will also be cancelled.
