Foundation - The Greater Kansas City Community Foundation

Capital Region Medical Foundation is the fundraising arm of Capital Region Medical Center. Our mission is to help the Medical Center to achieve its mission - to improve the health of the people and communities it serves. CRMF's purpose is to provide donors with opportunities to contribute to Capital Region Medical Center's mission in a manner that best meets their personal goals and financial situation.

New Opportunities Through Affiliation With the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation
In September 2000, Capital Region Medical Foundation entered in a unique affiliation -with the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation (GKCCF). This provides supporters of CRMF with new options to consider when making planned gifts - options that offer multiple benefits to the giver as well as the donee.

While the CRMF has established a separate endowment fund at the GKCCF (in addition to the endowment fund managed locally), the expertise and experience of the GKCCF allows Capital Region supporters to choose from the following major types of opportunities:

Donor Advised Funds: The donor advised fund has proven to be a particularly popular vehicle for charitable giving. You may begin your own personal or family charitable fund through a minimum contribution of $10,000 to the GKCCF, which gives you an immediate tax deduction. This fund is then operated much like a personal or family foundation, because you can contribute to your fund when it is most convenient for you; and then recommend gifts over time to CRMF and other nonprofit organizations of your choice. You select the name and investment strategy of the fund, and then you get to enjoy making grants to organizations committed to the causes you care about most. You can even involve your children and grandchildren in participation of your donor advised fund, so they can continue to share in your family tradition of giving.

Life Income Plans: These gifting opportunities offer the opportunity to provide income for life to you, your spouse or other beneficiaries, with the remainder ultimately benefiting CRMF. In addition, you can avoid an immediate capital gains tax on the gift of appreciated property that has been held for more than one year and receive an income tax deduction based upon your age and payout rate. The GKCCF administers charitable remainder unitrusts and annuity trusts and charitable gift annuities which will later leave lasting legacies to CRMF.

For more than 22 years, the GKCCF has worked to improve quality of life through an active partnership with donors and others who believe, as we do, that positive change occurs through effective charitable giving. Today the GKCCF manages more than 1,400 charitable funds started by individuals, families, businesses and nonprofit organizations.
