Auxiliary

The staff at Capital Region Medical Center considers the volunteer auxiliary, known as the Partners, to be one of the hospital's greatest assets. The Partners members use their time and talents in many ways to help the hospital better serve our community. Partners members assist Capital Region staff by volunteering in the hospital, serving on special ad hoc committees and assuming leadership roles in the Partners organization.

There are currently more than 400 Partners members, including more than 200 members who are active volunteers. The Partners dedicate tens of thousands of volunteer hours to Capital Region Medical Center each year.

Who are our volunteers?

They are retired professionals who may have worked as nurses, teachers or accountants to name just a few fields our volunteers represent. They are mothers and fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers. They are high school students interested in learning about the healthcare field. They are active people from all walks of life who like to lend a helping hand.

Where do our volunteers work?

They work in all areas at CRMC, including surgery waiting room, admissions, medical records, information desks, nutrition, the Capital Cup coffee shop and the gift shops. In fact, Capital Region's two gift shops and the coffee shop are staffed entirely by volunteers!

What else do the Partners do?

The Partners members support Capital Region in many other ways. They raise money for special projects. They hold staff appreciation events throughout the year. They encourage healthy behaviors through various activities such as breast cancer awareness drives, promote child safety identification through the WHALE program and offer scholarships to students pursuing healthcare degrees.

What are some of the Partners' accomplishments?

  • Donated more than $40,000 for patient recliners in the inpatient rehabilitation unit.
  • Purchased $25,000 of equipment in the pediatric unit.
  • Volunteered nearly 50,000 hours of service to Capital Region each year.
  • Donated $250,000 for each of the following projects:
    • Goldschmidt Cancer Center.
    • Sam B. Cook Healthplex expansion.
    • Physicians Office Building expansion.

The Partners continue to:

  • Raise money through a variety of fundraising events with proceeds going to specific hospital programs and departments.
  • Award over $10,000 in scholarships annually.
  • Make Buddy Bears to give to all children who are patients at CRMC.
  • Provide Heart Pillows for all cardiac patients.
  • Conduct disease prevention and awareness campaigns.
  • Promote WHALE (We Have a Little Emergency), a child identification program.

Partners teen volunteer program

Capital Region Medical Center is looking for teenagers who would like to participate in our summer volunteen program. Applicants must be 14 years old before they can begin volunteering. "Volunteens" will be required to attend one of the following orientation sessions held at Capital Region Medical Center, 1125 Madison St. in the Tunnell/Wherritt Community Conference Center.

  • Thursday, May 4, 2017 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
  • Monday, May 8, 2017 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The program is limited to 50 teens. Those interested in volunteering should call 573.632.5032 or email ksholes@crmc.org no later than April 28 to reserve a place for one of the two orientations. Teens who show up without a reservation will be placed on a waiting list. Prior to the orientation, those interested should download and print the application, even if you have volunteered at CRMC in the past. Please complete the application and bring it with you to the orientation. If you are under 18, please be sure to have a parent sign the form to give consent to your participation in this program.

At the orientation, teens will receive a TB (tuberculosis) test. You will be required to return two or three days later to have the test site checked. Information about where to get your test site checked will be provided at the orientation. Teens who have not previously volunteered at CRMC must provide a copy of their immunization records. Please bring this to the orientation.

Volunteens are guaranteed at least one four-hour work shift a week. This will be either from 8 a.m. to noon or noon to 4 p.m. Volunteering will begin the week of June 5 and end the week of July 24.

Parents are welcome to attend the training session; however, it is not necessary if a parent signs the application giving consent. If you have any questions, please contact volunteer services at 573.632.5032 or email ksholes@crmc.org.
