Support groups

Sometimes we all need a little help making it through life’s obstacles. Here at Capital Region, we offer a variety of support services to encourage motivation, progress and comfort along the way.

AIM Diabetes Support Group

The AIM Diabetes Support Group is available for those with diabetes, pre-diabetes and their caregivers. Topics include dealing with symptoms of diabetes, fatigue, pain, hyper/hypoglycemia, stress and difficult emotions; exercise and nutrition; medication usage; reading food labels and working more effectively with healthcare providers.

Date: Second Monday in Jan., March, May, July, Sept. & Nov.

Alzheimer's Caregiver Support Group

In partnership with StoneBridge Senior Living and Heisinger Bluffs, Capital Region offers this group for family members and caregivers of those with Alzheimer's. This support group is provided free of cost and is open to the public provide an opportunity for family members and caregivers to meet and develop a mutual support system that will help maintain the health and well being of its members. Members share feelings, needs and concerns in a confidential, safe, supportive, non-threatening and non-judgmental environment.

Encouragement Through Caring Support Group

The Encouragement Through Caring (ETC) group was established in 1989 in Jefferson City by women diagnosed with breast cancer. The meetings and activities are designed to offer support for breast cancer patients and their family members. The group participates in monthly meetings with guest speakers, Breast Cancer Awareness Month activities and fundraising efforts for the Relay for Life and Boost BBQ.

Happy Achiever's Stroke Support Group

The Happy Achiever's Stroke Support Group is available for survivors and others interested in increasing the understanding of the emotional, social and educational needs of stroke survivors. Research has pointed to the fact that recovery after stroke is more complete and faster with a strong support system, and we want to help make that happen.

The group is open to anyone: stroke survivor, caregiver, members of the community. Different topics are discussed and presented each month.

Heart-to-Heart Support Group

We want to help you live life with all your heart. The Heart-to-Heart Support Group is for cardiac and pulmonary patients as well as their families, friends and caregivers, We offer educational programs to help participants face the challenges of altered lifestyles including how to make physical and emotional adjustments. Share your experiences while giving and getting emotional support.

Living in Recovery Support Group

The Living in Recovery Support Group focuses on relapse prevention.

Better Breathers Support Group

Pulmonary rehabilitation is designed to help individuals who live with chronic lung diseases such as emphysema, asthma and chronic bronchitis. The goal of the program is to limit the progression of the disease while helping patients lead a more fulfilling life.

Parkinson's Support Group

The Parkinson's Support Group is available for those with the disease or for anyone who is interested in learning more about it. A variety of guest speakers have met with the group about topics such as: nutrition, exercise, articulation problems and dysphagia, leisure education, drug interventions, and the mind-body connection to health and wellness.

Social Skill Group

The Social Skills Group is designed for children ages 9-18. In addition to our monthly meeting, we will have one Saturday activity a month. There will be a $10.00 fee for each meeting—to be paid (cash/check only) at the front desk when you check your child in for the group.

Warriors to Lean On Cancer Support Group

The Warriors to Lean On Cancer Support Group is open to the public and is available to all cancer survivors, current or past patients, and their caregivers and/or family members that are in need of support. The meetings and activities are designed to offer emotional support and provide education about various topics such as nutrition, exercise, types of cancers, and the mind-body connection to health and wellness. The goal is to discuss our experiences, present current challenges and offer encouragement through sensitivity while respecting confidentiality. There is no pre-registration required.

Wings of Hope Support Group

Here at Capital Region Medical Center, we believe Hope matters, especially as we journey through times of loss and grief. The death of a baby is a tremendous loss, and we are here to walk with you as you grieve. Wings of Hope, CRMC is a program designed specifically for families whose precious baby has come and gone from this earth much too quickly. From the moment of crisis, through the time of loss, and well into the future, we are here for you. We care about you and your precious baby. We will remember, and we will be honored to offer Wings of Hope, CRMC as you walk this path.

Men's Cancer Support Group

The Men's Cancer Support Group helps men facing a cancer diagnosis or who are cancer survivors. This support group will be available to men who currently have cancer, have had cancer or are supporting someone with cancer. The group will focus on providing care and empathy for members. The interactive format will facilitate conversations to provide care and compassion with the goal of empowering one another with confidence and knowledge that come from the wisdom of experience. Oversight for the group will be provided by Angela Rehagen, BSW, who serves as a social worker at Goldschmidt. The group aims to provide a confidential, supportive environment and resource for men in our community. Registration is not required.
