Capital Region Pilots App to Humanize the Patient and Family Experience

JEFFERSON CITY, MO – Capital Region is increasing communication and satisfaction for patients and families with Ease. Easily downloaded from a smartphone or tablet, Ease is an app that allows hospitals to send one-way HIPAA compliant videos and messages to the family of patients, keeping them updated while offsite from the hospital.

Like most hospitals nation-wide, Capital Region had to make the difficult decision to restrict visitors in our waiting rooms in an effort to protect our patients and staff in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. While the decision was essential for the integrity of a safe health care environment, it resulted in additional communication barriers with patients and their loved ones.

To help alleviate those challenges, Capital Region piloted the Ease app in the surgery department, allowing the patient’s care team to provide updates to their family from the operating room.

“Since we launched Ease in our operating rooms, we have been able to provide peace of mind to the families and loved ones of our patients,” says Adrienne Mills, director of surgical services at Capital Region. “The platform is completely safe and HIPAA compliant and has truly improved our ability to connect to families during these difficult times.”

One user says, “INCREDIBLE! I felt so helpless stuck at home and Ease made me feel like I was there holding my father’s hand. Bless you all.” Another user proclaims, “This has been very helpful through this Coronavirus outbreak when we all can’t be there for my dad. It is a great app!” St. Louis Post-Dispatch describes the app as being “like Snapchat from the operating room”.
