Inpatient rehabilitation

Capital Region Rehabilitation Services have provided care to patients and families since 1977.

Mission: To improve the functional independence of individuals with activity limitations.

Purpose: To provide comprehensive rehabilitation services to individuals with a disabling disease or injury in order to maximize functional independence and enhance quality of life.

This goal is facilitated by the efforts of a team of professionals specifically trained in rehabilitation. Our 14-bed unit offers intensive patient and family education and training to promote the individual's return to home and community.

FAQs

There are many questions patients and their families should ask before choosing the right rehabilitation program. Here are some very important questions to ask about any rehabilitation program.

What kind of license and accreditation does the unit have?

Capital Region's inpatient rehabilitation unit is licensed by the state of Missouri and is accredited by The Joint Commission and American Osteopathic Association (AOA).

Will my personal physician be involved with my care?

Your personal physician may be involved with your care if they have staff privileges at Capital Region and desire to be an active participant. Usually, your physician transfers your care to the physiatrist during the rehabilitation program.

How often will the physician see me?

At Capital Region's inpatient unit, a physiatrist sees each patient at least three times per week and is on call 24 hours a day.

How much therapy will I receive a day?

All licensed inpatient rehabilitation units require patients to have the ability to tolerate or to increase their endurance to participate in three hours of therapy a minimum of five days per week. Therapies include at least two or all three of these services: occupational, physical or speech therapy.

Are nursing services available?

Rehabilitation nursing care, including nurses certified in rehabilitation, is available 24 hours a day to all patients on Capital Region's inpatient rehabilitation unit.

How long will I stay?

Each person's plan of care is individualized depending on diagnosis, but the average stay is 10 to 14 days. Patients with cerebral vascular accidents (strokes) may expect a longer stay of three to six weeks, depending on the severity and progress made in therapy.

Maximizing your functional independence

The process of recovering from a disease or illness includes treatment, recovery, rehabilitation and return to community living. Rehabilitation enables the individual with new activity limitations to achieve the best possible functional outcome and continue to enhance hisor her quality of life. How quickly an individual recovers after treatment is dependent on the individual, their degree of disability and the intensity of their rehabilitation program; it is important to begin the rehabilitation process as soon as possible.

A visit to our unit is the best way to appreciate the quality of care available. If that is not possible, please contact us for more information or a personal tour.
