About
Michelle Huyser, MD, is a board-certified general surgeon and surgical oncologist who treats stomach and intestinal cancer; liver, pancreas and biliary cancer; melanoma and skin cancer; retroperitoneal sarcoma (a rare cancerous mass of the abdomen and pelvis) and other abdominal lining (peritoneal) cancers. She offers surgical approaches that are minimally invasive and tailored to precisely target tumors within the body, including robot-assisted surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy, or HIPEC, a localized way to treat abdominal cancers that have spread to the abdominal lining.
Dr. Huyser grew up in a small rural town in Arizona, where she saw firsthand the challenges communities face without access to quality health care. This experience shaped her path to becoming a cancer surgeon. She is excited to join a collaborative, innovative and supportive team that brings advanced cancer care to people in Missouri. Dr. Huyser works to form a relationship with each of her patients by trying to understand each patient’s unique set of values and goals, which inform their decision making. She seeks to offer clear education and support throughout diagnosis and treatment, in hopes to build a collaborative partnership with the patient during complex medical decisions and challenging times. Her goal is for each patient to feel empowered and knowledgeable about their diagnosis and cancer care.
Outside of work, Dr. Huyser’s hobbies include domestic and international travel, hiking, functional fitness and enjoying good restaurants. She has plans to adopt a dog.
