Story Summary

Debbie Carnahan has always played to win. A regular at the pickleball courts in her Camdenton community, her drive has shaped her life long after retirement. So when an unexplained lump and a sudden hospital stay upended her routine during the holidays, Debbie faced the challenge the only way she knew how: head-on.

Debbie was diagnosed with an aggressive form of blood cancer. She started treatment and even returned to pickleball during chemotherapy. But when her cancer returned months later, her care team at Ellis Fischel Cancer Center offered a powerful next move: CAR-T cell therapy, an advanced immunotherapy that retrains the body’s own immune system to fight cancer.
