About
Shadi Bakjaji, MD, is a board-certified pediatrician with additional fellowship training in pediatric endocrinology who has practiced as a pediatrician and pediatric specialist for more than 20 years. He provides expert care for children to treat a full range of hormone conditions, including diabetes, obesity, hyperthyroidism, growth disorders, adrenal and electrolyte disorders and puberty-related disorders. He also coordinates the transition of care for these disorders from pediatric providers to adult providers as his patients age.
Dr. Bakjaji chose medicine because he values the ability to combine scientific problem-solving with long-term relationships that support a child’s growth and development. His care is patient- and family-centered, prioritizing clear communication and shared decision-making. He aims to deliver evidence-based care tailored to each child’s needs and combines clinical expertise with quality improvement to reduce variability and improve outcomes.
Outside of work, Dr. Bakjaji’s hobbies include playing basketball, traveling, building and customizing computers and exploring new hardware and software. He and his wife have four children.

Research Profile
Shadi Bakjaji, MD, is a board-certified clinician and researcher who focuses on pediatric hormone disorders in the adrenal glands, thyroid and throughout the body that lead to conditions such as diabetes, obesity and metabolic disorders, growth disorders, gonadotropin deficiency and more. He is excited to join an academic health system and bring translational research advances in immunology and genetics to patient care.
Dr. Bakjaji has been the primary investigator in studies examining the prevalence of autoimmune disease and its implications in idiopathic type 1 diabetes. He has also led a quality improvement initiative to improve clinical care for children with congenital hyperthyroidism, which resulted in measurable process improvements that were published in a peer-reviewed journal. He often collaborates with researchers in neonatology, clinical genetics, pediatric endocrinology, primary care pediatrics, clinical laboratory medicine, and pediatric surgery when relevant.
